UDON Entertainment Celebrates Darkstalkers’ 25th Anniversary With Official Complete Works

by James Ferguson

The Darkstalkers franchise is turning 25 this year and UDON Entertainment is reaching into the vault for a new release of Darkstalkers: Official Complete Works. This book is long out of print and UDON is upgrading it into a hardcover. It contains the artwork behind every Darkstalkers game including key visuals, character illustrations, promotional artwork, rough concepts, and creator commentary. It also features multiple interviews with the creators of the series along with tribute pin-ups from Capcom artists such as Bengus, Daigo Ikeno, Tamio, and more.

Tribute pin-up artist Yusuke Murata says:

I still remember the way I felt when I first saw the “Darkstalkers” arcade game in action. A fist comes out of the ground when you punch!? You fight a transforming robot!? I instantly became enthralled with this game, which seemed to draw a clear line in the sand between itself and the other fighting games out there. This is the game that taught me how important it is to express a game’s allure through its movement, and I still apply this lesson to my work today.

Darkstalkers: Official Complete Works clocks in at 224 pages and will retail for $49.99 It’s set for release on October 22nd, 2019. It is currently available for pre-order.
