Producer Adi Shankar Calls Castlevania A Movement For Adult Prestige Animation
by Tito W. James
Castlevania producer Adi Shankar took to social media to express the importance of mature animated storytelling.

Dear Emmy Voters: We are not a tv show, we are a movement 🤯. A vote for our show is a vote for more adult prestige animation to exist. Narratively sophisticated animation with complex adult themes is 🔥, so 🙏🏾 lend our movement your support.
Shankar is an interesting character, known for directing Dredd, his extended universe of gritty fan films, and for wearing makeup like a pro-wrestler. In addition to Castlevania, Shankar has been tied to animated adaptations of Assassins Creed, Devil May Cry, Hyper Light Drifter and he has expressed a strong desire to adapt Berserk.
It’s important that professionals recognize mature animation as an artistic movement and phrase it in those terms. Yes, we have cartoons for adults but we need more “narratively sophisticated animation with complex adult themes.” I hope Shankar’s candidness on the topic will encourage more cartoon creators to join the mature animation movement.
