Paper Girls Finds A New Route As An Amazon Series
by Erik Amaya
Paper Girls may be ending its run as an Image comic book this month, but it has a new future to contemplate.
Deadline reports Amazon, Legendary TV, and Plan B have teamed up to bring the sci-fi comic by Brian K. Vaughn and Cliff Chiang to the screen as a television series on Amazon’s Prime service. The story follows a group of paper girls whose Halloween routes get disrupted when a war across time invades their quiet 1980s suburb. Thrust into a conflict beyond their reckoning, the four young women discover their futures, visit the ancient past, and come face-to-face with the perpetrators of the conflict in a future version of their suburb too strange to process. Along the way, their bonds are tested and their perceptions of themselves are shattered. Published since 2015, the series has always been backed by Chiang’s gorgeous art and evocative colors by Matt Wilson. It is one of the great Image titles from the last decade.
Toy Story 4‘s Stephany Folsom will write the pilot and serve as an executive producer with Vaughn and Plan B. Since the project was just announced, it is unclear how long it will take to bring the series to life, but expect it in 2021.
