SDCC 2019: Devil’s Due Announces Sequel To AOC Comic
by James Ferguson
Devil’s Due Comics made quite a splash with its recent comic, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Freshman Force, showing the new Representative in as a hero taking on Washington in a satirical fashion. The publisher has announced a follow-up to the book called Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Freshman Force: The Squad Special, showcasing four members of the House of Representatives’ “Squad:” AOC, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib) as a superhero team fighting racism and corruption.
Scheduled for release in December 2019, the comic will feature a standard edition with the subtitle “We’re Not Going Anywhere!” with a portion of the proceeds donated to Raices Texas, a non-profit organization that provides legal services to immigrants and refugees for immigration protection. An alternate-cover version with the subtitle “We’re Not Going Anywhere, Motherfucker!” is limited to 500 copies with all the proceeds donated to immigration charities. Both are available for pre-order at OcasioComic.com.
Devil’s Due publisher Josh Blaylock says:
In recent days, the President had directed his latest round of bigoted vitriol at not just one, but four women of color recently elected to Congress. And I’m pretty sure he’s unaware of the political hurt they’re going to unleash on him in the coming months. We have some predictions of our own, mind you, and we’re excited to put a bunch of them into this upcoming issue.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Freshman Force: The Squad Special will feature a mix of brand-new storylines as well as the continuations of some of the Capitol Hill adventures from the previous book and the recently released Talk Bernie to Me. Devil’s Due has not shared the creative teams for these stories just yet, but it has said that a series of variant covers are on the way.
