Cynthia Von Buhler Brings The Mysterious & Provocative Illuminati Ball To Comics
by Richard Bruton
This October, author and visual artist Cynthia von Buhler brings you a spectacular graphic novel experience that takes its inspiration from the legendary 1972 surrealist masked ball attended by the biggest celebs of the day, including Salvador Dali and Audrey Hepburn.
Myth meets mystery in an unforgettable graphic novel about power, cruelty, deceit, betrayal, and an insatiable hunger for freedom.
Author and visual artist Cynthia von Buhler is the creator of the comic series Minky Woodcock: The Girl Who Handcuffed Houdini and has collaborated on projects with Gaiman, Steven Spielberg, and Clive Barker.
This October, she brings her hit immersive theater production, The Illuminati Ball, to the page in an all-new hardback graphic novel.
The Illuminati Ball candidates crave power, love, money, respect, fame – that which eludes them. Their enigmatic host, known only as Pig King, craves something more basic: salvation for his kind. But an Illuminati Ball requires a sacrifice.
It’s all inspired by the infamous 1972 surrealist masked ball hosted by Baron and Baroness de Rothschild, where the bizarre was the order of the day; dinner plates covered in fur, table settings of taxidermied tortoises, food served on a mannequin corpse, dead fish as forks, all to entertain the rich and famous of the time, with guests including Salvador Dali and Audrey Hepburn to the Rothchild’s sumptuous mansion in France.
And in The Illuminati Ball, von Buhler takes the Rothschild’s ball as her starting point for a graphic novel that merges elements of the iconic party with science and magical elements to create a world filled with myth, mystery and animal-human hybrids.
The characters in the graphic novel are fanciful, but I assure you, the science is real. Spider cows and pig humans are among us. Read this story and discover the light of scientific truth.
