The Valiant Universe Goes To War In Fallen World #4
by Tony Thornley
The very concept of war is a terrifying thing- one power trying to use its might to exert influence over another. However, Fallen World presents a possibility even more terrifying- a fallen force returning to force its will back on others. And that’s just one of the things that makes Valiant’s event a great story.

Dan Abnett, Adam Pollina, Ulises Arreola, and Jeff Powell give us the penultimate chapter of the future’s greatest war.
Bloodfather, the ruthless amalgamation of Bloodshot and the deposed dictator AI Father, has turned its forces on humanity, determined the subjugate the very people who were just liberated from his control. Humanity is forced to fight back in a last ditch effort. Can Earth’s heroes- Rai, Gilad the Eternal Warrior and the Geomancer- take action to save the day, or is all lost?

Abnett tells a story about the consequences of war, presenting us with horrifying scenario of destruction after another. He also shows us what desperation will do to people, especially when they’re faced with horrifying odds. To top it all off, he does all that while still telling a fantastic action-adventure story, which exciting battles, and noble heroes.

Pollina’s work is great. He had a great eye for action, giving us several sequences that ramp up the tension, and multiple spreads and splashes that give the action a greater impact. His character world is equally good, as we struggle right alongside the various heroes we’re reading about. However, Arreola’s color art is sometimes too busy and over-rendered, making some pages read a little messy.

Despite some flaws, this is still a highly enjoyable book, and an event worth recommending.
Fallen World #4 is available now from Valiant Comics.
