The Wheel Of Time Finds Its Key Five

by Erik Amaya

That Wheel of Time series is getting closer to production with the arrival of its five young stars.
Based on the novels of Robert Jordan, the series will see Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) trek across magic-infused worlds — and our own mundane world —  with a band of young people. She suspects one of them is a prophesied chosen one who will either save the lattice-work of worlds or destroy them utterly. Veteran Chuck writer Rafe Judkins will adapt and serve as showrunner for Sony Pictures Television and Amazon.
According to Deadline, the group of young people includes Madeleine Madden, Marcus Rutherford, Barney Harris, Zoë Robins and Josha Stradowski as Egwene Al’Vere, Perrin Aybara, Mat Cauthon, Nynaeve, and Rand Al’Thor respectively. If you’re a fan of the 15-novel series, these choices will no doubt be significant as they may or may not vary wildly from your conception of the characters.
The Wheel of Time joins Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings series as part of Amazon’s push away from niche character dramas to larger, epic storytelling. And with 15 volumes to work with (the latter three written by Brandon Sanderson after Jordan’s death), Amazon has plenty of epic story to tell. Of course, one has to wonder how Amazon will fund both The Lord of the Rings and The Wheel of Time. But perhaps the speed at which The Wheel of Time is coming together may give us some indication.
