by James Ferguson

Marvel Comics is getting a special 80th birthday wish from Mickey Mouse with a special variant cover for Marvel Comics #1000 available exclusively at D23 Expo 2019. Illustrated by Humberto Ramos and colored by Edgar Delgado, the cover features the most famous Disney character alongside the Avengers.

This cover will be given away at D23 Expo 2019 to those attending the Marvel Comics 80th anniversary panel on Saturday, August 24th from 5:30 – 6:30 PM at Stage 28. The panel will feature Marvel Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort taking fans through the amazing history of Marvel Comics and honoring the iconic characters and stories that have fascinated countless fans over the years.

Marvel Comics #1000 is a huge oversized special edition one-shot, set for release on August 28th, 2019. It includes a who’s who of past and present creators telling a number of stories throughout the Marvel Universe, all pulled together to tell a massive story from writer Al Ewing.

Brevoort told D23.com:

Marvel Comics #1000 is a chance for 80 great creative teams to do a segment that encapsulates what they love about Marvel, the characters, the tone, the style, the flavor—what Marvel means to them. As a result, it’s a book that has something for just about everybody. It’s as wide-ranging a project as there’s ever been. No other comic in the history of comic book publishing has had this many creators in a single project.

Marvel Comics #1000 releases as close as possible to Marvel’s official 80th birthday of August 31st, 2019.

Ewing added:

The book ended up as a mystery that segues into a party, and then rotates back to the mystery. As a reader, you’re slowly lulled into a false sense of security, almost, and then we end by turning over a final card and showing you something big.
