Lana Wachowski, Keanu Reeves, And Carrie-Anne Moss Return For The Matrix 4

The Matrix finally has its reboot.
Variety reports original Matrix co-director Lana Wachowski and original stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss are signing up for a fourth entry in the cyberpunk series. Plot details are scarce, other than Reeves and Moss will return as Neo and Trinity.
Which, for those who recall the end of the Matrix trilogy, Neo’s return will be quite a surprise.
“We could not be more excited to be re-entering ‘The Matrix’ with Lana,” Warner Bros. Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich said in a statement. “Lana is a true visionary—a singular and original creative filmmaker—and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in The Matrix universe.”
“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now,” added Wachowski. “I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.”
The original Matrix set the tone for science fiction and action films in the 21st Century. It also helped established the notion of tentpole trilogies and ushered in the age of DVD. It is unclear if the new Matrix will leave as big of a mark on the culture, but anything is possible.
Production is said to begin next year.
