Your Country Needs You: Preview Superman: Year One #2

by Olly MacNamee

Frank Miller and John Romita Jr have their second issue of the disappointing Superman: Year One out this week through DC Comics mature imprint Black Label. But, who knows, the second may make up for the first. However, judging by the preview, they’ve still got a long way to go to to impress this reader, as the focus continues to be on Clark Kent’s time serving his country and going a long way to explaining the line-towing, ask-no-questions Superman of Miller’s Dark Knight Returns. Definitely a Superman for a Trump America. A far cry from the version dreamed up by two Jewish immigrant boys those many decades ago. Sigh.

Clark Kent’s journey of self-discovery continues in the second installment of Frank Miller and John Romita Jr.’s remarkable reimagining of Superman’s origin story. This chapter takes young Clark to the Pacific coast and beyond, as he discovers a place as sensational as he is…Atlantis! There he meets new people, finds love, clashes with gargantuan beasts and discovers the man he’s meant to be.
