ComiXology Originals Unveils Four New Titles Debuting In September

by James Ferguson

September is fast approaching and what better way to celebrate the back-to-school season than with some new comics? ComiXology is adding to its Originals line with a new creator-owned title released each week in September.

The fun kicks off with Breaklands from writer Justin Jordan, artist Tyassetta, colorist Sarah Stern, and letterer Rachel Deering on September 4th, 2019. This five issue series is set 150 years in the future in a world where everyone has powers except Kasa Fain, who is desperate to find her recently kidnapped brother.

Field Tripping will debut the following week on September 11th, 2019. It’s also a five-issue mini-series. This one is written by James Asmus and Jim Festante, with art by Jose Garcia and lettering by Ryan Ferrier. Field Tripping is a multiverse-spanning all-ages story following a flighty teacher with an interdimensional traveling school bus and her students as they become stranded while jumping between bizarre worlds. It sounds a bit like the Magic School Bus.

The Black Ghost debuts on September 18th, 2019 from writers Alex Segura and Monica Gallagher, artist George Kambadais, colorist Ellie Wright, letterer Taylor Esposito, and editor Gregory Lockard. It will feature covers by Greg Smallwood, Francesco Francavilla, Veronica Fish, and Bill Sienkiewicz. The Black Ghost centers on journalist Lara Dominguez who is chasing her one, big story. She’s close to discovering the identity of a masked activist known as The Black Ghost. First she’ll have to find her way through the city’s corruption and her own personal demons.

Finally, Quarter Killer rounds out the September titles on the 25th. The five-issue mini-series is written by Vita Ayala and Danny Lore, illustrated by Jamie Jones, and lettered by Ryan Ferrier. This is the action-packed cyberpunk story of Quentin Kidd aka QK, an ex-corporate computer hacker who works for whoever is willing to pay them with old school currency, specifically quarters. It turns out they’re untraceable. QK has two rules: No working for criminals or police and no killing.
