Marvel’s 80th Birthday Gets A Soundtrack From Pandora And SiriusXM
by James Ferguson
You know that one friend that insists on celebrating their birthday for the entire month? Well, Marvel Comics is doing that for the whole year. The publisher is turning 80 years old and the party has been non-stop for months. To continue this celebration, Marvel announced during its 80th anniversary panel at D23 Expo 2019 that it has partnered with SiriusXM and Pandora to launch an all-new exclusive music station and limited-time channel called Marvel’s 80th: The Road to Marvel Comics #1000 beginning on Thursday, August 29th, 2019.
Marvel’s official 80th birthday is just two days after that so you’ll have a good 48 hours to listen to host Mike Rubens guide you through each year with commentary tying each song to some of the most defining moments in the Marvel Universe alongside real-life history. The music is curated by Marvel with Pandora and SiriusXM. It features artists such as Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, Duran Duran, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Madonna, Prince, Eminem, Kanye West, The Weeknd, and more.
This soundtrack drops the day after Marvel Comics #1000 hits comic stands, so I’m not entirely sure how it’s the road to this issue when it would have already happened. In any case, since this is a massive book, it will take you some time to read it and what better way to do so than with a soundtrack for the ages?
Marvel Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski says:
Marvel Comics #1000 goes through each year of Marvel’s history and embodies the spirit of the times, the culture, and our Super Heroes in a way fans have never seen before. Music has always been a crucial element to capturing that feeling. As we continue to tell our stories and celebrate our 80th anniversary, we couldn’t be more excited to launch these music platforms for fans to enjoy and take a trip through some of the biggest milestones of the Marvel Universe.
