Peter Capaldi To Join The Suicide Squad
by Erik Amaya
Peter Capaldi’s latest geek manifestation will bring him into the DC Universe.
Deadline reports the Twelfth Doctor is set to join the cast of The Suicide Squad, James Gunn’s quasi-sequel to the earlier Suicide Squad. Both films center on a group of DC Comics bad guys press-ganged into doing wetwork for the US. Government. Gunn’s version includes the return of Margot Robbie and Jai Courtney as Suicide Squad‘s Harley Quinn and Captain Boomerang. Viola Davis and Joel Kinnaman also reprise their roles as government minders Amanda Waller and Rick Flag, with David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, and Steve Agee taking on the parts of the Polka-Dot Man, the Ratcatcher, and King Shark. Flula Borg will also appear as a potential love interest for a member of the Squad. Idris Elba is set to star as an as-yet unnamed character with Nathan Fillion and Taika Waititi also set to appear in undisclosed roles.
The site also reports Saturday Night Live castmember Pete Davidson may also cameo in the film. It is unclear what characters he and Capaldi might play, but we’ll go out on a limb here and suggest Capaldi could be playing Mr. Bones, a former villain turned director of the Department of Extranormal Operations. It seems like a good fit for the actor and a fine way to include the character should the DEO and Waller’s operation come into conflict. And really, who wouldn’t want to watch Davis and Capaldi get into a shouting match over the fate of some z-list villains? In fact, we would happily watch the two of them sparing for a good 90 minutes.
The Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 6th, 2021.
