Dark Horse Comics Gives Umbrella Academy The Deluxe Treatment

by James Ferguson

Dark Horse Comics has announced a new series of deluxe edition hardcovers collecting The Umbrella Academy. These are not to be confused with the library editions out this Fall. These new versions will begin coming out in Spring 2020, collecting the series from writer Gerard Way and artist Gabriel Ba.

Series creators Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá say:

We’re excited to give our fans the opportunity to further enjoy The Umbrella Academy with this new line of deluxe hardcover editions. We’re incredibly grateful to our fans for all their support and hope they enjoy these beautiful new books.

The Umbrella Academy: Volume 1 – Apocalypse Suite Deluxe Edition includes the complete series, along with the short stories “Mon Dieu!” and “But the Past Ain’t Through with You” and a 50-page sketchbook section featuring art by Gerard Way, Gabriel Ba, James Jean, and designer Tony Ong. The whole book clocks in at 216 pages and the oversized hardcover is bound in leatherette, debossed with an applique of the umbrella symbol, and has a foil stamping and a satin ribbon bookmark. Classy.

But that’s not all! You’ll also get a lithograph featuring a unique art piece created by Gabriel Ba that’s exclusive to this deluxe edition. The image is enclosed in a leatherette portfolio, debossed with the Umbrella Academy crest. The book and the portfolio are collected in a slipcase featuring art by Ba, finished with matte lamination and spot gloss UV.

The Umbrella Academy: Volume 1 – Apocalypse Suite Deluxe Edition will be available at your local comic shop on March 4th, 2020 and at book stores and Amazon on March 17, 2020. It retails for $79.99 and is currently available for pre-order. Similar editions are planned for The Umbrella Academy: Dallas and The Umbrella Academy: Hotel Oblivion, later in 2020.
