Stranger Things Renewed For A Fourth Season As Duffer Brothers Make Over-All Pact With Netflix

by Erik Amaya

Expect more Duffer Brothers content and at least one more season of Stranger Things at Netflix.

The streamer announced today that it has made an overall-all deal with Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer. “The Duffer Brothers have captivated viewers around the world with Stranger Things and we’re thrilled to expand our relationship with them to bring their vivid imaginations to other film and series projects our members will love,” Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said in a statement. “We can’t wait to see what The Duffer Brothers have in store when they step outside the world of The Upside Down.”

“We are absolutely thrilled to continue our relationship with Netflix,” added the Duffer Brothers. “From our first pitch meeting to the release of Stranger Things 3, the entire team at Netflix has been nothing short of sensational, providing us with the kind of support, guidance, and creative freedom we always dreamed about. We can’t wait to tell many more stories together — beginning, of course, with a return trip to Hawkins!”

Of course, that return trip to Hawkins may be in a roundabout way. As the teaser above indicates, we’re not in Hawkins, Indiana anymore. The notion is consistent with the Season 3 finale, in which Joyce (Winona Ryder) sold her home, packed up her things, and left town with her sons — and the seemingly orphaned Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) — in tow. But Eleven may not be as orphaned as she thinks. A stinger scene also indicates that Jim Hopper (David Harbour) may have survived the drill explosion by jumping into the Upside Down and emerging in the Soviet Union. Granted, “the American” held in the Siberia prison could be anyone.

But as all seasons of Stranger Things sees this weird family of D&D players, spunky reporters, bad sheriffs, concerned mothers, telekinetics, and Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) separated only to find each other again, we can sort of guess the shape of Season 4: all the players will find their way back to Hawkins to discover there’s no place like home.

The teaser’s already initiated the Oz references, so this is a fair appraisal.
