NYCC 2019: Picard Trailer Sees Old Friends Reunited

by Erik Amaya

Jean-Luc Picard’s (Patrick Stewart) journey may be starting a little later than we expected, but this new trailer for the upcoming CBS All Access series Star Trek: Picard makes up for it by letting us catch up with some old friends.

In the new series, Picard re-engages with the galaxy after a rescue mission some years earlier went terribly awry. A mysterious humanoid alien arrives on his estate pleading for help, but Starfleet is uninterested in hearing from the old hero of the alien’s pleas. Thus, he’s forced to assemble a team and take to the stars on his own. Presumably, the fate of the galaxy will hang in the balance because Picard often finds himself at the center of interstellar upheaval.
Meanwhile, his old executive officer William T. Riker (Jonathan Frakes) and ship’s counselor Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis) have found a wonderful life in what we presume is the Alaskan wilderness. It is an absolute delight to see them, but we hope the series gives them more to do than be a counterpoint to Picard’s isolated lifestyle.
The series will also feature Alison Pill, Harry Treadaway, Santiago Cabrera, Michelle Hurd and Isa Briones as members of a team joining Picard on a fateful mission.
And as we mentioned up top, the series will premiere a little later than initially expected. Since the show began production, CBS All Access claimed the series would debut this Fall. But as of today, it has a new premiere date: January 23rd, 2020.
