NYCC 2019: DC Comics Announce New Amethyst Series By Amy Reeder

by Olly MacNamee

Announced at NYCC’s Wonder Comics panel, Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld will be getting her own solo title from writer Amy Reeder (Batwoman, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, Rocketgirl) who will write, draw and color this new series. Simply titled Amethyst, it launches February 2020 and DC had a preview of interior art to share with those gathered, as well as up and running on their website now. But, we have them here to share with you today too. I enjoyed the original series way, way back in the day (created by Dan Mishkin, Gary Cohn and Ernie Colón) and I’ve enjoyed her inclusion in Young Justice too, so I’ll be definitely picking this up next year when it comes out. Will you be joining me?

Following the character’s triumphant reintroduction in the pages of Young Justice, the new Amethyst series follows teenager Amy Winston, a.k.a. Princess Amethyst, as she returns to her magical kingdom to find it in ruins, her subjects vanished, and none in the realm of Gemworld still loyal to her house. To solve this mystery, restore House Amethyst, and save her family, Amy must find new allies and confront dark secrets on a deadly quest to the farthest reaches of Gemworld.
