One last Riverdale Season 4 trailer debuted during the program’s New York Comic Con panel detailing a few of the debut episode’s early moments. In it, Archie (KJ Apa) receives a devastating phone call regarding his father Fred (Luke Perry). As discussed back at Comic-Con International: San Diego and again at NYCC, the season premiere will honor Perry, who passed away earlier this year, by dedicating itself to a memorial service. But as the oddly paced trailer reveals, that pause and reflection will soon give way to the things the show does best.
In the weeks ahead, Jughead (Cole Sprouse) will find himself transferred to a private school, Betty (Lili Reinhart) will begin investigating her brother, Archie toys with becoming a vigilante, and Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) will embrace a new kind of crazy as she attempts to use her brother’s corpse to coax him back from the dead. Will Riverdale finally give into the supernatural elements it teases from time to time? Considering this is senior year, pivoting the show toward those elements may be a way to keep it alive once the gang graduates high school.
Riverdale returns Wednesday on The CW.
