Naomie Harris In Talks To Play Venom 2’s Shriek
by Erik Amaya
Marvel Comics character Shriek may soon take on the form of Eve Moneypenny.
Variety reports actor Naomie Harris is in talks to play Shriek in the upcoming Venom 2. Created by by Tom DeFalco, Mike W. Barr, Terry Kavanagh, Ron Lim, Jerry Bingham, and Mark Bagley in 1993’s Spider-Man Unlimited #1, she first appeared as another inmate of the Ravencroft Mental Hospital alongside Cletus Kasady. He freed her during his escape and the two became a thrill-killing couple. Her mutant powers — which include flight, the manipulation of sound waves, and the ability to access her victim’s darker sides — were activated when she encounter Cloak sometime before the events of Spider-Man Unlimited #1 and the “Maximum Carnage” storyline. She would find herself back in Ravencroft a number of times, but just as often escaped to further plague Spider-Man.
The character first came on the radar earlier this week, when word broke that she would be part of the film’s roster of characters. Presumably, she will join Woody Harrelson’s Kasady in the villain’s corner while Tom Hardy continues on as both Eddie Brock and the Venom symbiote. Michelle Williams is also set to reprise her role — although we hope Eddie will learn the romantic part of their relationship is well and truly over.
The film will be directed by Andy Serkis, who won the job after Sony sought out a replacement for Ruben Fleischer, whose schedule will not accommodate Sony’s early 2020 production start date.
Venom 2 hits theaters on October 2nd, 2020.
