New Season, New Team? Preview Roy Of The Rovers: Transferred
by Richard Bruton
A brand-new season for Roy Race begins with the shocking news that he’s no longer Roy the Rovers! He’s been sold to Rovers’ bitter rivals… Tynecaster. Is it going to be Roy of Tynecaster from now on? The only way to find out is to get the brilliant new graphic novel, Roy Of The Rovers – Transferred – previewed right here at Comicon…
Yes, the graphic novel starts with that bombshelll that Roy of the Rovers is no more.
It’s all down to the dodgy actions of Melchester Rovers’ chairman, the wonderfully named Barry ‘Meat’ Cleaver. And for the new season Roy Race and his strike-partner, Paco Diaz are out of Melchester and now playing the new season for Premier League champions Tynecaster.
Meanwhile, Rovers are starting the new season in the third tier of British football, League One, after promotion last season. But with two of their best gone, can they survive in the new league or are they practically relegated before the season even starts?
With the chairman still determined to sell Rovers’ hallowed ground of Mel Park to the developers, first-team manager recovering from the massive heart-attack suffered last season, and coach Johnny Dexter fired in the first few pages here, things have never looked worse for Melchester Rovers.
As for Roy, you’d think he’d be happy now, after all, he’s playing in the Premier League in only his second season, the striker for one of the biggest clubs in the world. His family need the money, that’s for sure but, as you’ll see in the pages of the preview below, Roy just isn’t in the right place, not the team and not in his head.
This fourth ROTR graphic novel written by Rob Williams has new artist Lisa Henke transferring in from illustrating the Tom Palmer written novels. All of which means it all looks fabulous, just as great as it did with Ben Willsher on the art.
It’s a fabulous new season for Roy, no longer of the Rovers, but still able to deliver incredible action and drama, on and off the pitch. With Transferred, the Roy of the Rovers story continues in wonderful fashion.
