Ralph and Barry Play At James Bond In A Preview Of The Next Flash
by Erik Amaya
We’ve reached the first of The Flash‘s regularly scheduled dark weeks. That is — a week without a new episode of the show. But when it returns, Barry (Grant Gustin) and Ralph (Hartley Sawyer) find themselves playing at James Bond-style super-espionage. Will they survive the experience?
As we’ve always been fans of Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes), it was great to see him get a featured spot this week dealing with almost all of his issues simultaneously. His insecurity about being the leader, his relationship with Kamilla (Victoria Park) and his previous relationship with Cynthia (Jessica Camacho) all added up to a truly great spotlight story and an opportunity for Valdes to take on some great dramatic material. Also, it is great to see the show committing to Cisco’s relationship this time — something they could never do with Cynthia for a variety of reasons — and prove that Kamilla is a worthy addition to Team Flash.
But the theme across all the plots this week, trust, played out in interesting ways. From Joe’s (Jesse L. Martin) speech about how he learned to trust the universe to Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) learning her trust in Ramsey (Sendhil Ramamurthy) was misplaced gave the episode a nice balance even as it put the focus on Cisco. It also proved the series could pivot to a program without Barry Allen. Not that we think that’s going to happen, but it’s nice to see the show experimenting with such a colossal change.
The Flash airs Tuesdays on The CW.
