Third Walking Dead Series Gets A Title — The Walking Dead: World Beyond

by Erik Amaya

Breaking with the established format, the new Walking Dead series will have a colon as AMC announces the program will be called The Walking Dead: World Beyond.
Created by overall Walking Dead brand manager Scott Gimple and Matt Negrete — who serves as showrunner — the series will focus on “the first generation raised in the zombie apocalypse. Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever. Grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad.” The program stars Aliyah Royale, Alexa Mansour, Annet Mahendru, Nicolas Cantu, Hal Cumpston and Nico Tortorella. Recurring cast includes Natalie Gold, Al Calderon, Scott Adsit, and Ted Sutherland. Julia Ormond has also joined the series as Elizabeth, the charismatic leader of a large, sophisticated and “formidable” force. And based on this teaser for the series, she will be the source of darkness in the otherwise teen-focused series.

The teaser’s initial music cue still suggests the show belongs on a channel like Freeform, but it is possible the series will make light of its obvious attempt to gets teens onto the Walking Dead gravy train. And with the primary show’s ratings declining, infusing the brand with new viewers is the smart decision. Will it work? We’ll know in about a year’s time.
The Walking Dead: World Beyond is set Spring 2020 debut on AMC.
