Alternative histories are a big favourite of mine. Whether it’s Amazon Prime’s the Man in the High Castle, or Kim Newman’s Anno Dracula novels, I’ve become something fo a fan, and so this new Image Comics’ series by Eisner-nominated writer Chuck Brown (Bitter Root), artist Prenzy (#Like4Like) and letterer Clayton Cowles (The Wicked + The Divine) is right up my street.
Set in a modern world wherein the historical 1868 Presidential election went very, very wrong – and new rules drawn up as a result – On the Stump explores violence, politics and the varied consequences doled out to the rich and the poor. Get ready for a rumble when it comes out on Wednesday, February 19th 2020 from Image Comics. But first, we have a preview at this thought-provoking new book.
In the On the Stump universe, history diverged in 1868 when a pivotal presidential debate turned violent. Today, elections are decided by highly publicized hand-to-hand combat in arenas called Stumps. Unfortunately, the violence doesn’t end in the ring, and powerful people can still get away with murder. Senator Jack Hammer and FBI Agent Anna Bell Lister are teaming up to bring it all down.
