James Bond Meets 007 In No Time To Die Trailer

by Erik Amaya

To look at the trailer for the upcoming No Time to Die is to see the troubled production of the latest 007 film become part of the story. In it, an aged James Bond (Daniel Craig) comes out of retirement to help his old pal Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright) out of jam. In doing so, he bumps up against a MI6 mission and the new 007 (Lashana Lynch). It brings him into conflict with Madeleine Swann (Lea Seydoux), who will seemingly leave him during the film’s title sequence. It also reunites him with the architect of all his pain, Ernst Stavro Blofeld (Christoph Waltz). Somehow, it all leads back to Swann and her secrets. But what does have to do with Safin’s (Rami Malek) plot and his interest in Bond? Is he the new Number 1 of Spectre?

Never has a 007 film seemed more like the end of Bond than this. Of course, we all know his story will reboot with the next actor, but giving Craig’s version of the character some finality is fitting. Also, we appreciate the extensive use of the Aston Martin in the trailer. Hopefully, the delays, loss of director, hastily rewritten script and all of Craig’s injuries on set will translate into a fitting conclusion to his time as 007. We will say this, Craig is wearing every scar the 007 films have given him on his face here and it works really well.
No Time to Die opens on April 8th, 2020.
