The New Mutants Ride Again In New Trailer

by Erik Amaya

As one last echo of 20th Century Fox’s autonomy, its long-delayed The New Mutants will finally be released on April 3rd. To, um, celebrate, the studio (now a part of the Disney galaxy) has released a new trailer for the film. Based on “The Demon Bear Saga” from the pages of the New Mutants comic book series, young mutants Rahne Sinclair (Maisie Williams), Illyana Rasputin (Anya Taylor-Joy), Sam Guthrie (Charlie Heaton), Danielle Moonstar (Blu Hunt), and Roberto da Costa (Henry Zaga) are housed in a psychiatric hospital where Danielle’s powers appear to be used against her and the others — forcing them to relive their worst fears until they die.

Directed by The Fault in Our Stars‘s Josh Boone, the film was original slated for release in 2018, but kept sliding off the schedule for a series of planned reshoots and to accommodate problems with Dark Phoenix. The additional photography — reportedly designed to introduce a new character into the mix — never took place as Disney’s purchase of Fox halted all of the latter studio’s ambitious plans for future X-Men films. The New Mutants now stands as a glimpse of what that future might have been.
The New Mutants finally comes to theaters on April 3rd.
