After a year of stories bouncing around the Multiverse, Young Justice was able to stop and catch their breath last issue. Now another crisis is drawing their attention, and it will change the team dramatically!
Brian Michael Bendis, John Timms, Gabe Eltaeb, and Wes Abbott end one part of the team’s adventures while throwing them into the future.
Superboy has vanished and STAR Labs has blamed it on his “overbearing” friends. However, the kids are a lot smarter than that, and they leap into action to save their friend. It’s an adventure that will bring together the entirety of the Wonder Comics’ line.
This is a set-up issue that’s one part epilogue, one part character work. Bendis takes what normally would be a fairly boring plot and makes it work incredibly well. His versions of the various other Wonder Comics kids- the Wonder Twins, Summer and Miguel of Dial H for Hero, and Naomi – are all welcome additions to the team, blending their appearances from their regular series with the style of this series. Though not a lot happens, Bendis makes sure it’s engaging from cover to cover.
Timms makes sure the entire issue is extremely dynamic. Though it’s very talky, each character moves through the page with exciting purpose. He also makes sure that the guest stars feel like themselves, invoking the art styles of the series they came from without imitating those artists. Eltaeb’s colors are bright, and uses effects to enhance the story extremely well.
Young Justice has come back in style, and are forging ahead into the future of the DC Universe. I’m excited to see what comes next.
Young Justice #12 is available now from DC Comics.
