Dynamite Celebrates Luis Garcia’s Work In New Art Bookstores

by James Ferguson

Luis Garcia’s legendary artwork is a sight to behold and soon you’ll have a whole lot of it in one place. Dynamite has announced The Art of Luis Garcia, a new deluxe hardcover art book showcasing his work that helped transform Warren Publishing’s comic magazines in the 1970s. Written and curated by artist and historian David Roach, this book follows each stage of Garcia’s career in a comprehensive retrospective. It goes from his early seductive romance strips to contributions to French publication Pilote, to his autobiographical and political work in graphic novels, not to mention his horror stories for Warren and later painting.

Editor David Roach says:

As a lifelong Vampirella fan I first discovered the artwork of Luis Garcia when I was very young, and it has stayed with me ever since. His entire life been notable for his never ending drive to push himself and evolve as an artist. I believe this book contains some of the very greatest artwork in comic history. I’m sure it will amaze and delight both old fans and new admirers.

Garcia contributes to the book as well, recounting wide-ranging memories such as modeling for romantic fotonovelas, meeting cultural icons like Salvador Dali and John Lennon, and hanging out at Studio 54.

Nick Barrucci, Dynamite CEO/Publisher added:

García is an artist’s artist. His linework is so beautiful, he’s easily one of the best artists of his time, and has influenced many artists in the comics industry and outside. Our line of art books stands out, and we’re proud to add in Luis García alongside names like Alex Ross, Lucio Parrillo, George Perez, Howard Chaykin, Sean Phillips and more. I hope that this release will bring greater awareness to Luis García and his art.

The Art of Luis Garcia clocks in at 230 pages loaded with artwork that’s almost entirely shot from the original pieces. There are also several complete short stories including, some of which have been translated and published in English for the very first time in this book. It’s set for release in April 2020.
