Nintendo Has Sold Over 50 Million Nintendo Switch Consoles

Nintendo recently released their latest earnings; discussing the sales of both the Nintendo Switch, as well as several key software components, and announcing that their current console has sold 52.48 million systems worldwide. This was accomplished as of December 31st, 2019, which is roughly 34 months after release.
The company has also mentioned how many copies were sold of several key first party titles. Currently, Pokemon Sword and Shield is at 16.06 million copies, which was achieved roughly within six weeks. This makes the company’s latest Pokemon title one of the best selling of all time, placing it on track to beat out other titles like Pokemon XY, Pokemon Sun & Moon, and even more beloved entires like Ruby/Sapphire and Diamond & Pearl.
The Switch’s best seller continues to be Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, currently sitting at 22.96m copies, while Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is at 17.68m, Super Mario Odyssey is at 16.59m, and Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is at 16.34m.
Nintendo also had numbers for software released in 2019 as well: Super Mario Maker 2 was the strongest performer, at 5.04m copies. Coming in at a close second was the Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening remake at 4.19m. Fire Emblem continues to grow in popularity, with Fire Emblem: Three Houses selling 2.58m copies, and their innovative exercise RPG Ring Fit Adventure selling 2.17m. They also mentioned a few third-party exclusives, with Astral Chain and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 both selling over a million.
