Jared Reinmuth Hits The Road With ‘Big Black: Stand At Attica’ Winter Tour

by James Ferguson

In preparation for the release of Big Black: Stand at Attica, BOOM! Studios has announced a winter book tour. Co-writer Jared Reinmuth will visit bookstores and libraries across New York state to meet with readers and sign copies of the graphic novel. The comic is written by Frank “Big Black” Smith and Reinmuth and illustrated by Ameziane. It tells the true story of the price of standing up to injustice in one of the bloodiest civil rights confrontations in American history. Reinmuth will be joined by special guests Daniel Meyers (one of the key lawyers in the decades-long lawsuit following the events depicted in the book) and Pearl “Battle” Smith (Frank “Big Black” Smith’s wife) for select appearances. Check out the schedule below:

Big Black: Stand at Attica begins in the summer of 1971 at New York’s Attica State Prison. This was a symbol of everything that was broken in the country. Prisoner abuse, rampant racism, and a blind eye towards the injustices done to the powerless were par for the course. When the guards overreacted to a minor incident, the prisoners decided they’d had enough and revolted against their jailers, taking them hostage and demanding humane conditions.
Frank “Big Black” Smith found himself at the center of this uprising, trying to protect hostages, prisoners, and negotiators at the same time. This brought him into conversation with Governor Nelson Rockefeller where he learned that a peaceful resolution for the prisoners was unattainable.
Big Black: Stand at Attica is set for release at your local comic shop on February 12th, 2020 and at bookstores and Amazon on February 18th, 2020.
