Bad Idea: The New Comic Book Publisher Coming From Ex-Valiant CEO And Friends

by Olly MacNamee

In the past few years we’ve had something fo a growth in new independent comic book companies such as AHOY Comics and TKO Presents, and now it would seem we have another new contender to the crown with a teaser from a new publisher called Bad Idea.
We’re promised more details tomorrow but we do know that former Valiant Entertainment employees – Dinesh Shamdasani (ex-CEO and CCO of Valiant Entertainment before the buyout by DMG) and Warren Simons – are putting together a line of comics from the likes of Doug Braithwaite (DC’s Justice, Marvel’s Journey into Mystery), Tomas Giorello (Valiant’s X-O Manowar, Dark Horse’s Conan), Lewis LaRosa (Marvel’s Punisher MAX, Valiant’s Bloodshot Reborn), and Adam Pollina (Marvel’s X-Force). The artwork above seems to suggest a more mature line of comics – even a line of exclusively black and white comics too, maybe –  and a company name that they themselves promise in the PR, we will find out more about tomorrow, Thursday 5th February.
Looking a little further at Dinesh Shamdasani recent Twitter activity and then you get a few more clues as to what kind of comics Bad Idea may be about to drop. A promise of higher quality comics, something like DC’s Black Label maybe and a further move by American comic publishers to borrow from the highly successful European Bande Dessinée tradition, perhaps?
Obviously, when we hear anything more tomorrow morning, you’ll be the first to know. After all, if you love comics surely you too are as intrigued as I am to find out more about the company’s name choice, launch date and a bit more about their first slate of books.
