As this week’s episode had to deal with the fallout of K.O. (Zane Holtz) asking Katy (Lucy Hale) to marry him, Katy Keene will be celebrating Valentine’s Day late this year. Given how Katy’s holiday appears to be going in the trailer for next week’s episode, that might be just as well. Despite not really answering Gloria (Katherine LaNasa) on whether or not she wanted to split her time working with her and Francois (Nathan Lee Graham), Gloria seems to have assumed her answer will be yes; which means Katy could be working the holiday. Then again, if the fire in her kitchen is any indication of how things are going with her and K.O. moving in together, maybe that’s for the best.
While Katy was smart to propose that they live together first before getting engaged, it sounds like what she really wanted to do was break-up and Francois’ last-minute advice, instead of helping, gave her an excuse to avoid that conversation. Similarly, it’s interesting to see the show employing foreshadowing so early, since without Katy’s voiceover at the end you could still imagine them getting married someday. Now the series is basically inviting viewers to look for signs of trouble, instead of keeping Katy’s romantic options open.
It’s great to see Freaks and Geeks’ Becky Ann Baker as a TV mom again and the casting of Broadway’s Daphne Rubin-Vega as Jorge’s mom was also inspired. While Jorge (Jonny Beauchamp) had every right to turn down the Jefferson tour, though, did the show really have to make out like being a part of the touring cast is so much lesser than Broadway?
Katy Keene airs Thursdays on The CW.
