‘Artemis Fowl’ Will Finally Hit Theaters This May
by Tito W. James
After a year long delay it appears that audiences will finally be able to see the film adaptation of Artemis Fowl. Based on the book series by Eoin Colfer, the film is about a boy genius who’s father is kidnapped by a supernatural enemy. Now Artemis must work along side modernized creatures from Irish folklore to save his father.
Fans of the book series (like myself) are sure to bristle at certain alterations to the plot and characters. Namely, it appears that Artemis’ criminal activity is being downplayed so that he’s more like Indiana Jones and less like a Bond-villain.
Even so, I do like the designs for the leprechaun tech and if the lead villain is who I suspect they are, we’re in for a good time. As it stands, all of my favorite childhood book series have been adapted into films. Inkheart and Eragon completely butchered the source material but Artemis Fowl at the very least looks fun. Hopefully it will spark interest in a new generation to check out the books.
Artemis Fowl will release in theaters May 29th.
