With Coronavirus Now Classified A Pandemic Will Reed Pop’s MCM Birmingham Be Cancelled? (UPDATED)

by Olly MacNamee

With ECCC and the London Book Fair both cancelled, and both owned by Reed POP, I wonder whether next weekend’s scheduled show at Birmingham’s NEC – a mere hop, skip and a jump away from Birmingham’s international airport – will also follow suit?
As of now, however, MCM Birmingham still seems to be going ahead although there are rumblings beginning to grow on their Twitter feed with more and more voices asking for a cancellation, or at the least some clarity. But, as yet, with no reply. Indeed, as of yesterday their official Twitter feed was still promoting the appearance of Gotham’s David Mazouz (Bruce Wayne) following what seem to be a similar pattern of social media behaviour ahead of ECCC’s cancellation. That is to say, carry on and hope for the best, while trying to ignore the growing, concerned voices. Oh, and the fact that it has now been classified as a pandemic.
We’ll keep an eye out for any developing news, but without any cancellations, as yet, it does seem, that for now at least, it’s full steam ahead.
But I must say, I have a bad feeling about this…
More as it develops.
(UPDATE: I am hearing that the NEC is closing for a month, so that would mean a cancellation of MCM Comic Con is out of their hands. More once it’s officially confirmed.)
