More Pages Revealed For ‘We Served The People: My Mother’s Stories’

by James Ferguson

BOOM! Studios has shared even more pages from We Served the People: My Mother’s Stories, the original graphic novel coming next month from cartoonist Emei Burell. This joins the first look preview we saw a few weeks back. She explores her mother’s stories of growing up in mid-1960’s Communist China through this gorgeous comic.

In China, an entire generation’s most formative years took place in remote rural areas when city kids were sent to the countryside to become rusticated youth and partake in Mao’s mandated Great Leap Forward. Emei’s mother, Yuan Ye Ping, recounts how she ended up as one of the few truck-driving women during the Up to the Mountains and Down to the Countryside Movement, which sought to increase agricultural outreach and spur social and ideological change amongst youth.

We Served the People: My Mother’s Stories will be published under BOOM! Studios’ Archaia imprint. It’s set for release on April 22nd, 2020 at your local comic shop and on April 28th, 2020 at bookstores and Amazon.
