Dex Tries To Beat A Murder Wrap In A Preview Of The Stumptown Season Finale

by Erik Amaya

Stumptown‘s season finale is upon us and it seems as though it will answer a big question: why was Benny Blackbird (Sam Marra) killed? Or, at least, it might touch on the subject since its related to the murder Dex (Cobie Smulders) is now accused of. Will she be able to beat the murder wrap? Will Hoffman (Micheal Ealy) be able to help her? Will Grey (Jake Johnson) survive and will the show explain why Lt. Cosgrove (Camryn Manheim) has been absent for weeks?

Since the show has never denied its sex appeal, we have to say pairing Hoffman up with Detective Kara Lee (Fiona Rene) is a ship we definitely support. Granted, Michal Ealy has chemistry with everyone, so its fairly easy to pull off. At the same time, this feels like a natural extension of the characters’ rapport since Lee’s first appearance. Of course, it will be interesting to see what sort of wrench Dex put into it.
Also, it’s nice to finally get a sense of who Benny was in life. The way he deployed empathy at Ansel’s soccer game offers so much about him and cements the feeling he would not go rogue in Afghanistan. Which actually brings us back to his death. Once governments get involved, shows have a habit of going grandiose on why characters are murdered. We hope Benny’s death concerned little else than war profiteering. The people behind his death need to be small, dumb, greedy jerks.
Stumptown airs Wednesdays on ABC.
