Barry Finally Figures It Out In A Preview Of Next Week’s ‘The Flash’

by Erik Amaya

It’s taken Barry (Grant Gustin) a shamefully long time to figure out the truth about Mirror-Iris (Candice Patton), but as this preview for next week’s episode of The Flash reveals, he’s finally on to her and will use every last bit of his science knowledge to determine the whereabouts of the real Iris (also Patton). But will Mirror-Iris be able to stop him?

It is interesting, even with splitting the season into two major storylines, that the plot feels overly long and Barry should’ve figured things out an episode or two ago. True, it’s only been 7 episodes since the Crisis, but The Flash always seems to get soggy around episode 17. Maybe it needs to break into three big stories to prevent this loss of pace?
Alternatively, it could give more time to Sue Dearbon (Natalie Dreyfuss) and Ralph Dibny (Hartley Sawyer). They are a delight — particularly with Cisco (Carlos Valdes) playing third wheel to their cat-and-mouse affair. Maybe, like The Flash comics of old, it needs to spend more time with the Dibnys and less time with Barry. Granted, that’s tough on a series called The Flash. It is doubtful the viewing audience would accept the title character’s absence for an Elongated Man story.
Also, we hope all the pomp around Joe’s departure doesn’t mean Jesse L. Martin has to leave the series again for medical reasons. His absences during his back injury last year was jarring; and that’s considering Joe doesn’t really get storylines. But this felt like a real goodbye for a beloved actor and if that’s the case …
Well, hopefully, there will be more time with Joe next year. In the meantime, The Flash continues to air Tuesdays on The CW.
