ComiXology’s ‘Youth’: A New Coming-Of-Age Comic Book Series From Pires And Diotto
by Olly MacNamee
Writer Curt Pires and artist Alex Diotto are about to publish a new 4 part weekly superheroes comic book series on comiXology that’s a little bit different to other genre comics out there that focus on young heroes. This is no Teen Titans that’s for sure, judging by the synopsis and the preview pages below.
In Youth, Franklin and River struggle to navigate family, friends, high school, work, drugs, and all the pressures of growing up. As a queer couple, they yearn to escape their lives in a small, bigoted Midwest town. They steal River’s stepfather’s Mustang and hit the road. Their destination? California. But along the way, the car breaks down. They meet some kids who are travelling the country, partying, and attempting to find themselves. They party some more. . . . And soon everything changes.
The first issue debuts next Tuesday May 12th and marks the first time Pires and Diotto have worked together since their co-created, acclaimed comic Olympia, and features colors by Dee Cunniffe, and lettering by Micah Myers. It’s a new series already being developed by Amazon Studios to become a TV show, so why not get in on the ground floor now?
