Disney+ has found its first (non-Marvel) comic book adaptation.
Boom! Studios announced Thursday that the streaming platform has given a green light to Just Beyond, a streaming program based on the horror/comedy anthology from writer R.L. Stine and artists Kelly & Nichole Matthews. The 8-episode series will be spearheaded by writer Seth Grahame-Smith.
“I grew up watching Twilight Zone reruns and the original Amazing Stories with my parents,” Seth Grahame-Smith said in a statement. “I’ve always wanted to make a genre anthology series that families could enjoy together, and do it in a way that delivered for kids and adults alike. R.L. Stine has been a part of millions of childhoods, and Disney+ has already proven itself as a place that knows how to make high-quality shows for the whole family. I couldn’t be more excited to be working with both of them.”
Grahame-Smith will serve as a writer on the series and executive produce alongside David Katzenberg, Stephen Christy and Ross Richie. KatzSmith Productions will produce the series along side 20th Century Fox Television — which has not yet dropped “Fox” from its name like other 20th Century entities within the Disney structure. R.L. Stine is attached as co-executive producer.
The series will come to Disney+ sometime in the Fall of 2021.
