Katee Sackhoff To Reprise Her ‘Clone Wars’ Role On ‘The Mandalorian’
by Erik Amaya
It seems the second season of The Mandalorian will be a big reunion of Dave Filoni characters.
Slashfilm reports Star Wars: The Clone Wars voice Katee Sackhoff will reprise her role of Mandalorian leader Bo-Katan Kryze in the Disney+ series’ second season. She is the first actor to do so as Clone Wars characters Ahsoka Tano and Captain Rex will not be performed by Ashley Eckstein and Dee Bradley Baker respectively. Instead, the exiled Jedi Padawan will be played in lived action by Rosario Dawson while, reportedly, Temuera Morrison will play Rex in addition to finally donning the garb of Boba Fett.
Bo-Katan is key to the Mando mythos as she ended up with the Darksaber by the end of Star Wars Rebels. But as seen in the closing moments of The Mandalorian‘s debut season, Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) held the legendary weapon and artifact of succession among the warrior race. Her survival means he came across the Darksaber by some other means. Beyond that element, though, she was a member of the Death Watch, the Mando group who saved young Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) during the Clone Wars — so there may even be a personal tie to the titular hero.
No matter her role in the series, her appearance — and indeed the arrival of other animated characters in live action — continues the trend of Filoni advancing the story of his characters in any and every available medium. Indeed, Rebels began with a few scant cameos in its first season before Ahsoka, Rex, and even Maul (Sam Witwer) weaved their way into the series ongoing storyline. And while series creator Jon Favreau wanted the first year to introduce all-new characters, tying it to Filoni’s saga was always in the cards. It’s just a shame Ray Park and Witwer cannot reprise Maul.
According to Disney, the series will not be delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Shooting was completed in February with post-production continuing apace. The second season will debut sometime in October.
