The First Ever ‘Firefly’ Comic Event Unfolds In ‘Blue Sun Rising’
by James Ferguson
BOOM! Studios has made all of us Browncoats proud with its ongoing Firefly comic book series, not to mention the one-shots, original graphic novels, and collections of old material. Now it’s setting its sights on the first ever event, kicking off in Firefly: Blue Sun Rising #0 this September from writer Greg Pak and artist Dan McDaid. They’re joined by series creator and story consultant Joss Whedon.
Firefly: Blue Sun Rising #0 has Mal and the crew facing off against Blue Sun Corporation, the shadowy organization that has haunted their steps all along. Mal has a new partner in a law-enforcing robot from Blue Sun who doesn’t care about motives, mercy, or anything other than the law, no matter the cost. The organization has helped run the ‘Verse from the shadows for ages, but now they’re ready to step into the light and take over. If Mal wants to keep his job and protect his sector, he’ll need to play by their rules, leaving him with only one choice: Reunite the crew of the Serenity for one last impossible job.
Firefly: Blue Sun Rising #0 features a main cover by Nimit Malavia and variant covers by Christian Ward and more to be revealed. It’s set for release in September 2020 along with a special prelude in Firefly #20. The event will flow through Firefly #21 – #24 and conclude in Firefly: Blue Sun Rising #1.
