Shayan Sobhian Joins ‘Legends Of Tomorrow’ As A Series Regular

Behrad lives!

TVLine reports actor Shayan Sobhian will return to Legends of Tomorrow as a series regular in its sixth season. He first appeared as Behrad Tarazi for a few brief moments after time changed at the end of the program’s fourth season and resumed the role in Season 5 in a recurring capacity. Behrad is the brother of Zari Tomas (Tala Ashe) and the original holder of the Air Totem in the timeline where the Legends first met her. When he was murdered by agents of A.R.G.U.S., she inherited the totem and joined the Legends in the hopes of saving him. In the end, she did so by inadvertently erasing her timeline and the circumstances of his death. This also gave rise to a social media obsessed version of Zari (also Ashe) who never faced the refugee life of her other self.

And because Behrad took her place in the Legend’s third and fourth season adventures, he was also presented as close friends with Nate Heywood (Nick Zano) and Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh); although, it is clear Behrad is the only member of the science bros who really likes to smoke pot. The character was an immediate bright spot in the season and his second death motivated Zari 2.0 to become more of a Legend in her own right. It was also a relief to see him live again, even if it meant Zari 1.0 had to return to the Air Totem permanently.

In terms of story, the continued presence of Behrad and Zari 2.0 offers the show something it hasn’t really had until this year: a sibling relationship. It’s a unique dynamic and offers the show another way to present the characters’ shared ethnic, religious, and family background. That’s definitely great material for both comedic and dramatic situations.

Besides keeping Behrad on full-time, Legends will also introduce a new Legend to go along with its aliens and sci-fi season arc. Described as “an alien conspiracy theorist,” it is unknown if this will be an original character or someone from the vast DC Comics library. But considering Earth-Prime’s open knowledge of aliens, this person would like need to arise from the past before Kryptonians and Durlans were common knowledge. Or be a raging skeptic like Doctor Thirteen.

Hmm …

Legends of Tomorrow returns to The CW sometime in 2021.
