Marvel Celebrates 300th Masterworks Collection With Exclusive Variant
by James Ferguson
Marvel Comics has been collecting seminal classic stories in Marvel Masterworks for over thirty years. This March, the line reaches a special milestone with the release of the 300th volume. Of all the heroes that could have been selected, the publisher went with Howard the Duck. To commemorate this release, Marvel is releasing the book with a special variant cover, available exclusively through the direct market.
Marvel Masterworks 300 features work from Steve Gerber, Val Mayerik, Frank Brunner, and Gene Colan. This collection includes Howard the Duck’s first appearance as a “fowl out of water” alongside Man-Thing, where the two team up to protect Cleveland from the Man-Frog and Hellcow. Other adventures feature Howard’s gal pal Beverly Switzler, the Space Turnip, the Beaver, and public transportation.
The book collects Howard the Duck (1976) #1-14, Marvel Treasury Edition (1974) #12, and material from Fear (1970) #19, Man-Thing (1974) #1, Giant-Size Man-Thing (1974) #4-5, and Foom (1973) #15. Look for Marvel Masterworks 300 in March 2021.
