During the Xbox Games Showcase on Friday, Obsidian came ready with multiple new games. But they ended the presentation with a glimpse at their latest IP, a AAA RPG known as Avowed. Initially, not much was known about the title as the video was a teaser with very little gameplay and no real focus on the world. But eventually, it was revealed the title will take place in their previously established Pillars of Eternity universe. Introduced in 2012 as one of the earlier Kickstarter game projects Pillars of Eternity was a massive success on the crowdfunding site, gaining over $4 million in crowdfunds and selling 700,000 copies total.
The sequel however, was significantly less successful in terms of overall copies sold, and as a result Obsidian seems to be using the universe to develop a more conventional RPG instead. There’s no release date for this title, but it’s doubtful it’s very far in development considering Pillars 2 released in 2018. Avowed is set to release for Xbox Series X and Windows 10, and will be available on Xbox Game Pass.
