Watch The Opening Moments Of ‘The Umbrella Academy’ Season 2

by Erik Amaya

It looks like tough times ahead for the Hargreeves in the opening scene from The Umbrella Academy‘s second season.
Of course, things are always tough for the six surviving orphans of Sir Reginald Hargreeves’ attempt to create a superhero team. One had his head surgically grafted onto the body of an ape. Another can speak with the dead — including his departed brother — and tries to drown them out with all manner of substances. Yet another is lost in time while yet one more tries his best to be a grim avenger. And these are just the boys! Their sister Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman) can change reality by speaking a rumor, but her life disintegrated after she used her abilities to get her daughter to go to bed. Then there’s Vanya (Ellen Page). Seemingly powerless all her life, she proved to be the key player in the coming apocalypse Five (Aidan Gallagher) found when he first stepped out of time.
And as the series picks up, we see Five land in Dallas, Texas sometime during the 1960s. He went there to save his siblings from the apocalypse, but it seems the end of all things traveled back with him and a found a decidedly ’60s way of expressing itself.

Loosely based on The Umbrella Academy: Dallas, the second season sees the Hargreeves scattered across the 1960s. Making new lives for themselves, the specter of annihilation forces them to reunite (again) and probably deal with more of their various traumas before botching the whole “save the world” thing. But if it’s anything like last season, it will be an enjoyable, if emotional, family get-together.

The Umbrella Academy returns to Netflix on Friday.
