Adria Arjona To Join Disney+ Cassian Andor Series

by Erik Amaya

After years of development, the Disney+ Cassian Andor series appears to be moving toward production.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, 6 Underground actor Adria Arjona has joined the cast of the Star Wars series focused on the earlier exploits of the rebel spy featured in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Diego Luna is set to reprise his role as Andor, with Alan Tudyk also returning as re-programmed Imperial droid K-2SO.
The program, first teased in the run-up to Disney+’s launch last year, has had a number of ups and downs. Initially developed by The AmericansStephen Schiff, Rogue One‘s Tony Gilroy came onboard earlier this year to retool the series alongside the showrunner. Which seems ironic as Gilroy was called upon to retool Rogue One from the gritty war film promised by director Gareth Edwards into something still gritty, but more Star Wars.
Details of Arjona’s character are, of course, unknown as Disney protects against even Bothan spies. Indeed, few details about the program are concrete beyond its stars and its nature as a Rogue One prequel. And we only know that because of what happens to Andor at the end of the film.
But bringing on a new castmember means Gilroy and Schiff’s reworking of the series has been approved and the program will move closer to production. Which is good news for those wondering when more Star Wars shows will appear on Disney+. Currently, only the first season of The Mandalorian is available, with a second slated to debut in October. Hopefully, Cassian Andor’s adventures will screen sometime in 2021.
