Book A Deadly Trip To A Murderous Music Festival With Scout Comics’ New Title ‘Killchella’ In 2021

by Erik Amaya

When young people head out to California’s Coachella Valley for the annual music festival, they expect to hear cool bands, scam their way into the VIP section, and maybe come back with an amazing story or two. But for a group of friends in Scout Comic’s upcoming Killchella, cult-like murder is suddenly on the set list.
From the mind of writer Mario Candelaria (Corktown) and artist Serg Acuña (Undertaker) — with Katherine Lobo (The Love She Offered) on colors, Matt Krotzer (Strayed) on letters and our own senior editor James Ferguson as story editor — the book sets out to chronicle a “bloody night of terror when a reclusive pop star making her big return after years in hiding recruits her most fanatical devotees to assist in a massive human sacrifice ritual.”

“There’s something primal out in that terrain that washed over me at a time when creatively I was at my lowest point,” Candelaria said in a statement. “I thought on the people who come out there for spiritual healing, and the people who left big city life behind to live in the shadow of Mount San Jacinto. There’s a lot of positivity to be found out there, but what if all those good vibes flipped the wrong switch in someone? What if someone like an influential celebrity got the message wrong, and then used their following of rabid fans to spread a twisted message of love and warmth onto an unsuspecting crowd?”
