DC FanDome: John Ridley To Take On The ‘Legacy Of The Bat’ In January 2021
by Erik Amaya
John Ridley is going from The Other History of the DC Universe to the Legacy of the Bat.
Announced during a panel at DC FanDome on Saturday, the new DC Comics project will see the The American Way co-creator tackling a new Batman story. According to the writer,“I think it’s a pretty safe bet that if I’m writing Batman, it’s probably a little better than a 47% chance he’s going to be a person of color.” With art from Mister Miracle cover artist Nick Derrington, the four-issue series will focus on the Fox family, which suggests a certain person will be wearing the cowl.
In regards to Lucius Fox, Ridley added, “he has a family and this is a family that has secrets, has kept secrets from one another … it’s a little bit different dynamic than the Batman that we’ve always seen.”
The project represents the next major work from Ridley for the publisher. Though talked about for sometime, DC finally announced his Other History of the DC Universe will debut in November. Previously, the writer contributed to The Authority: Human on the Inside in 2005 and wrote The Razor’s Edge: Warblade the same year. And though Ridley was said to be working on a Marvel TV show for ABC, it seems he is something of a key participant in DC’s future.
Legacy of Bat is set for a January 2021 release.
