Aldis Hodge To Join ‘Black Adam’ As Hawkman
by Erik Amaya
A feature film Hawkman is about to take flight.
Deadline reports One Night in Miami‘s Aldis Hodge will portray Carter Hall in Warner Bros. Pictures upcoming Black Adam. Starring Dwayne Johnson, the long-in-development film will see the big screen debut of Shazam’s key adversary and several member of the Justice Society of America.
Created by Gardner Fox and Dennis Neville, Carter was an archeologist who happened to be the reincarnation of the Old Kingdom Pharaoh Kufu. Discovering the mysterious Nth Metal while on a dig, Carter used its anti-gravity properties to become a winged vigilante. Soon after, he would become a founding member and chairman of the JSA. Of course, the character and his world has expanded well beyond its simple premise with the Nth Metal getting an alien origin and an alien named Katar Hol replacing Carter as Hawkman.
Honestly, it’s far more complicated than even that. Hawkman’s history is such a sticking point, DC sometimes sticks the character in the library hoping readers will forget things like the 1980s Hawkworld series or the “Hawkgod.”
The film will presumably see Carter in his role as JSA chairman. The group is set to encounter Johnson’s Black Adam. And while Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo) is swayed by his arguments, Carter will more likely try to smash Adam’s face. A third member of the team, Cyclone, has not yet been cast.
Production is slated to begin next year after the COVID-19 pandemic — and Johnson’s own infection with the virus — prevented a summer start. It is currently slated for release on December 22nd, 2021.
