‘WandaVision’ To Launch In January
by Erik Amaya
Although Disney+ teased a holiday debut, its first Marvel Studio limited series, WandaVision, debuts in January.
The series sees Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) move to the idyllic suburb of Westview. But as Wanda struggles to hide her powers and Vision’s synthoid nature from the neighbors, it becomes more than apparent that their sitcom world is some sort of illusion. Is it Wanda’s powers trying to spare her the grief of losing Vision or is a more sinister hand at work? Also, why is some shadowy agency — which may or may not be S.W.O.R.D. — camped out near Westview’s city limits?
The series also features Kathryn Hahn as nosy neighbor Agnes, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, and Teyonah Paris as a grown-up Monica Rambeau, whose infiltration of Westview does not go as planned, if the recent trailers are any indication.
For a time, it seemed as though the series might debut this year. Disney+ included scenes from the series in a winter schedule sizzle reel, released a trailer, and got the show featured in this week’s EW. All of those things suggested a December debut. But considering the show just wrapped production and still needs some post-work, maybe a 2020 release was just wishful thinking on the streaming service’s part.
WandaVision joins the Disney+ lineup on January 15th.
