Arrow might have ended this year, but David Ramsey‘s association with the Arrowverse continues.

Deadline reports the actor and director will return to the Vancouver sets of The CW superhero shows in both capacities. Behind the camera, he will direct five episodes of the various shows, including the new series Superman & Lois. In front of the camera, he will return as John Diggle on Superman & Lois, Supergirl, The Flash and Batwoman. It sure sounds like a crossover event, doesn’t it?

Additionally, he will play a mystery character on Legends of Tomorrow, which only bolsters the feeling a different crossover from the one originally planned is about to happen. When the producers of the CW shows were asked about the next crossover after “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” they all agreed something smaller was on the way. Originally, this was going to be a two-show story with Batwoman and Superman & Lois characters meeting. It is unclear if that plan survived the departure of Ruby Rose from Batwoman. Telling a story in which Diggle is the only character moving from show to show would still be contained while giving more of a epic sweep. Of course, one thing standing in the way is scheduling. Batwoman, The Flash, and Superman & Lois — and Black Lightning for that matter — will air in the winter and spring of 2021 while Supergirl and Legends will form a sort of “mid-season” in the summer or early fall alongside Stargirl. Unless there is an overlap week with all the shows airing, Diggle’s appearances are more likely to be a one-off thing.

Well, assuming his return as Diggle has nothing to do with that mystery character. When we last saw Dig, he saw a meteor fall from the sky. Tracking it to the crash site, he found a mysterious green-glowing object. Now, we’re not saying the mystery character is Green Lantern, but it sure feels like that story beat will be paid off. Additionally, seeing him as a non-GL Dig in, say, Batwoman and as GL in Legends tracks in terms of the schedule. If such a thing were to occur, it would feel more like a summer crossover (ie, Eclipso: the Darkness Within) than a “Crisis” level event. And that would be an energy worth chasing after three years of universe-shattering crossovers.

The Arrowverse returns in 2021.
